Happy Independence Day!

Although July 4th was another early morning, after the kids were both in bed the night before Jared and I stayed up to watch Independence Day. This may just become a new tradition of ours! Then after breakfast the next morning we headed off to the parade. Although the streets are crowded the night before with people camping out for the parade, we've always managed to get a great spot just showing up a little bit early in the morning. On our way to our usual spot we ran into a Wookie! This is as close as Gavin would get to the giant walking carpet for a picture!

Our usual spot is right in front of the Wells Fargo building, where we can set up in the shade of the building, and just down from the announcers. Before the parade began we joined in at the street dance party, and of course it didn't take long for Gavin to make some new friends. He shared his Pop-Its with his buddies, and completely ditched us to sit with them during the parade!

Liam, on the other hand, was content to hang out with us. I think he was slightly perplexed by the parade and didn't know what to think of all the giant balloons, marching bands, floats, and loud vehicles driving by.

A favorite part of the parade was Darth Vadar and an army of Storm Troopers and other Star Wars characters marching down the street. I must say it was slightly cryptic to see Darth Vadar carrying the US flag! Gavin made sure to reassure us that none of these were the real Star Wars characters, they were just people dressed like them. But when Darth Maul came up in the rear I think Gavin had a hard time explaining away those horns as just a costume!

High Fives from the police

After the parade we came home for lunch, naps, and hanging out for a bit before heading out to Utah lake for some sailing.

Cute pictures of these two best friends

Happy Independence Day!

Love these two boys!

Well there wasn't much wind for sailing, but we did have fun swimming and hanging out at the lake

Hamburgers for dinner before heading off to watch the fireworks

The past several years we have ridden our bikes down the the football stadium to watch the fireworks up close and personal! This year with two kids we wondered how we'd get there. Driving is out of the question unless you want to be stuck in traffic for at least an hour after the show, and it's too far for Gavin to ride his bike the whole way their and back. So we decided to borrow our friend's baby bike seat, and each carry one kid on our bikes. So we headed off, Jared and I each carrying a kid and chairs, along with a blanket and fireworks! Gavin may have been slightly squished in the baby seat, but we beat all the traffic and had fun on our way their and back. As usual we came prepared with our own fireworks to set off before the real show began!
