When Gavin came home from school last Spring with the beginnings of his milk jug grass garden I was doubtful. There were maybe two or three blades of grass poking up, and he couldn't wait for the rest to grow. Surprisingly it grew, and we had this beautiful grass garden for MONTHS!
Over Spring Break - largely thanks to Gavin's excitement about his grass garden we decided to see if we could get something else to grow. FYI: In the past I tended to kill anything that grew! So I thought what the heck, this will most likely turned into a failed experiment, but why not. After two weeks of watering and waiting I think I was more excited than Gavin when these popped out! Our cherry tomatoes were actually growing!!
Our pumpkins started to grow... but didn't make it once we transplanted them outside.

Four of our original 15 tomato plants made it - despite a mishap involving all the seedlings getting dumped upside down on the kitchen floor. And with some help from my watering bud...

And had plenty of these...
ALL summer long!!!
I finally pulled my tomato plants after Halloween because I didn't want to deal with it in the cold, although if I had actually put in the effort and energy to cover them at night we may have had tomatoes for even longer! Now I'm excited to try out more vegetables next year!
