It's now into October and despite having tenants in our basement, I feel like I am still playing catch up in so many ways since buying our home - including staying caught up with our blog. Gavin had a great end of First Grade and is well into Second Grade now and loving it. Once again be prepared for a picture overload.
I was able to help volunteer to go on Gavin's end of year field trip to the Children's Discovery Museum and Tracey Aviary. These four boys were full of energy, but fun to hang out with for the day.
And bonus for me running into Eliza and her little man at the Discovery Museum!
J.R. Smith Walk-a-Thon fundraiser. Last year in Kindergarten Gavin walked a total of six laps so we weren't expecting too much more for the first grade walk-a-thon. From his exhausted face you'd be right to guess that he more than doubled his record running 16 laps.
Spring Olympia Lion's Soccer
Each year Wasatch High School does this awesome fundraiser for track & field. For $5 kids can come to the high school and try out different track events. Gavin had a friend running the 400m and insisted he wanted to try it as well (this was Jared's event in high school)! He actually did pretty well for his first time ever. Gavin also tried his hand at javelin and long jump.

Just in time for school to end we realized Gavin was somewhat blind and in need of glasses. It was priceless to watch his reaction when putting glasses on for the very first time. He was amazed at how much he could see and how clear everything was. It made me feel guilty and happy for him all at the same time.
Each year Wasatch County puts on a Mile By Mile Kids Run. Over the course of several weeks kids can "complete" a marathon. They're given a chart with 25 squares. Each time they either run for one mile, or exercise for 30 minutes, they get to mark off one of the boxes. After completing 25 'miles' the marathon ends with a final 1.2 mile run to the annual Safety Fair. Each child earns a medal and t-shirt for finishing the race. I pushed Liam in the stroller and Gavin had fun running ahead with his friends from school.
We've survived so far with no broken bones, but we did take a trip at the end of last school year to the clinic for some stitches. Despite getting hit in the face with a bag of balls in P.E, Gavin really didn't want to cancel his after school play date with Campbell. Gavin stayed at school for the rest of the day, and after Campbell went home that evening we decided we should get his cut checked out. Gavin was relieved when the Doctor opted for glue rather than a stitch.
First Grade Field Day! I love how much I was able to help out and volunteer this school year. At Field Day, instead of being over a certain game, I got to go around from station to station with Gavin's class and help/hang out with Gavin all afternoon!
