July Holidays

Even though July is really the middle of the summer...once Canada Day and Fourth of July hit it really starts to feel like summer is here!  We kicked off the celebrations this year splashing around at Seven Peaks with these two handsome boys on Canada Day!

It's so funny to see their different personalities when it comes to water. Gavin, at age six, still freaks out when water gets in his eyes... whereas Liam likes to freak ME out by dunking his head under the water and refusing to wear a life jacket. But they both love the water, and we had a fun on slides, the lazy river, and jumping around in the wavepool.

Gavin loves the small open kid slides, but this time I was able to convince him to try the slightly larger tube slide. I felt like a horrible parent as I watched him almost in tears next in line to go down... and then the lifeguard said he couldn't wear his big goggles. When he came out the bottom looking terrified I was ready to apologize, but glad I waited long enough for him to wipe the water out of his eyes and shout, "That was awesome! If I close my eyes REALLY tight not much water gets in them!!!" And up he went for another three times down the big slide. Now maybe by the end of the summer I'll succeed in getting him to go down some of the really big water slides!

We ended the day with some Hot-n-Ready pizza and a quick stop at Auntie's to say hello!

Because July 4th was on a Monday this year, it seemed like it was an even longer extended weekend of celebration fun.  On Saturday we tried to lounge a bit in the morning and make sure Liam got a good nap before heading down to Provo.  Jared's parents as well as Tyler and Breanne came up for the weekend and were staying in Provo near Janea, and Jayden came down from Idaho. We checked out the booth along center street and did a ride before calling it quits and heading over to the splash pad to cool off. We didn't think to bring down swimsuits or towels, but of course that didn't stop the boys.

Saturday evening we watched the Stadium of Fire fireworks right across from the stadium as usual. Grandma bought these two more light sabers (because of course you can never have too many) and they had fun battling while waiting for the fireworks to start! When we lived in Provo we biked to the stadium to avoid the traffic, so this year we parked far away from the crowds and brought our bikes down in the trunk so we could still bike ride after the show and avoid the traffic jams. Not having a bell on his bike was no problem for Gavin! He did great yelling, "Coming through, passing on your right!" as we navigated through the crowds back to our car. Gosh I love that boy and his outgoing never shy personality!

Sunday was a low key day before picking up the celebrations again on Monday, July 4th! We absolutely love the Balloon Festival, so even though we aren't in Provo anymore we still headed down bright and early with donuts and chocolate milk to watch the balloons set up, take off, and compete. It's always a gamble just going on the last day and hoping the weather turns out... and this year the weather was not in our favor. Because of the winds the balloons weren't even setting up. After over an hour of waiting it out, a few decided to inflate their balloons! Whoohoo!!

And because the pilots weren't busy preparing to take off, we got to meet and talk with some of them and learn more about the sport.

After Balloon Fest it was time to head over to University Avenue for the Parade! We ended up in the sun this year which is hard with kids, but we still made the best of it and had a good time. And of course we cheered our loudest for Cosmo and BYU!

After the hot sun it was time for a cool off in the hotel pool with Grandma and Grandpa. Then back up to Midway for some much needed naps.

That evening everyone came up to our place in Midway for dinner and to watch the fireworks at Memorial Hill. Of course Jared had previously purchased our personal supply of fireworks for the evening and the kids had fun with fireworks and sparklers before the show began. And we learned Liam is one pyro toddler! He was enjoying waving those sparklers around everywhere a little too much!

By the end of the night after a long weekend of parting, this little guy was pooped!
