Lunch at In-N-Out on our way to the beach

Sand Time!
I used to think vacations had to be all about doing as much as possible, seeing everything there is to see, and filling the whole time with activities or plans. Now I'm grateful for these relaxing vacations where we can lounge around, hang out with family, and just sit and relax on the beach. Each year before this trip I'm always asked at least once, "So what are you going for? Are you going to Disneyland?" It's nice to be able to say, "Nope, we're just hanging out at the beach for a week!"
Staying at Mission Beach is perfect with the kids. It's a thin peninsula with the beach and waves on one side, and the calm bay on the other - and it's only about a two minute walk to either! I'm not sure how many years back this started, but building 'connects' on the beach has somehow become a favorite game. The boys (big and small) dig a winding channel down to the water. Eventually it turns into half of them trying to save the connects from getting destroyed while others dump buckets of water down trying to cave in the walls of the channel. This year there was also some sandman building and catching tiny crabs and jellyfish.
We missed Jayden, Tyler, and Breanne this year, but these five boys had such a blast together. Little Emmy was a bit hesitant of the sand and getting dirty at first, but I think she warmed up to it a bit by the end of the week. Janea was one the the few adults actually willing to get in the freezing water, and the kids loved playing in the waves with Aunty.
We visited Old Town San Diego for dinner and a visit to the Mormon Battalion Historic Site, had an evening of bonfire and s'mores on the beach, took a bike ride along the boardwalk and a walk out on the pier, a date night while Grandparents watched all the kids, and enjoyed some more relaxing with family at the beach. Thanks for such a fun time!
After our trip, Gavin enjoyed an extended vacation at Grandma's house for a week
