Deja Vu

Well if one move wasn't hectic enough for us, fate decided to throw us into another tornado and carry us off to Midway.  Yup, after just a few short months in Heber we found ourselves once again packing up and moving.  Our landlord informed us the middle of September that their house was on the market, and shortly there after it sold. We had until the end of October to be out. We learned our lesson, and will ALWAYS insist on signing a contract!

We are now moved into our new home in Midway (the town right next-door to Heber), and starting to feel settled. We're really just on the very edge of Midway, so although Gavin's school is no longer a short bike-ride away, it is only about an eight minute drive. We decided to keep Gavin in the same school, then come next fall we will decide what our long term plans are and go from there.  And Jared is still only a five minute drive from work.

If I thought Heber was small, Midway is tiny, with not even a stop light in town!  It is right next to the mountains though, and very pretty. Each morning on our drive to school we pass the fields of horses, cows, and even some llamas! We also get to drive right by Daddy's office. It's become Gavin's routine to roll down his window and yell, "Hi Daddy!!" as we pass, while Liam laughs and waves.

So... two moves in three months plus a broken camera equals very few updates on the blog as of late. Here is a quick (or not so quick) summary of what we've been up to between the craziness of moving.

Spanish Dual Immersion: About three weeks after school started Principle Brown called to let me know that Gavin was next on the waiting list for the Spanish/English dual immersion program. We hesitated switching Gavin out of his current class - he loved Miss. Panagos! But he's so social the change wouldn't be hard, and it would be an awesome experience for him to learn Spanish.

So Gavin is now in morning kindergarten, spending half the time in the English room with Mrs. Giese, and the other half in the Spanish room with Maestra Renteria. He came home the first day a little overwhelmed not understanding anything going on in the Spanish room, but soon learned that most of the other kids also didn't understand Spanish. There is no English spoken in the Spanish room, and a whole lot of hand actions!  Gavin is picking up alot, and can count to 79 in Spanish!

Working in Heber: Towards the end of October, shortly after we found out we'd be moving again, I received an email that the hospital in Heber was in need of some help covering shifts while an employee was on leave. I contacted the lab and let them know we had recently moved to the area, and after talking it over with Jared I began working three days a week at the hospital up here.

It's been busy, but a great opportunity. Because Heber Valley Medical Center is a much smaller hospital, I have much more patient interaction. At Utah Valley I rarely, if ever, had any contact with patients. Here, we draw outpatients' (and some inpatients') blood samples - so I'm brushing up on my phlebotomy skills. I get to work in transfusion medicine (blood banking), an area I find super fascinating, but have never had the opportunity to work in until now.  And we also respond to traumas in the ER - drawing blood when needed, running point-of-care testing, and issuing blood products if necessary.

Three days a week is a lot for me right now with two little kids, and tonight was actually my last night on this schedule, but I do want to continue working up here.  My supervisor found out that their employee on leave will not be returning, so I've applied for a position where I would split a full time 7on/7off shift with another person. Basically I'd work 3 out of 7 days, have the next 7 days off, then work 4 out of the next 7 days. Slightly confusing but it would be great if it works out! We will see what happens in the New Year!

Soccer: When we moved to Heber one thing that Gavin was worried about was not getting to play soccer. So one of the first things we did was make sure we could sign him up! Shortly after school started Gavin started soccer up here. He was so excited the first day to find out that one of the boys on his team was not only in his kindergarten class, but in his Sunday school class at church as well! He did great and even scored a goal or two! Gavin loves soccer (yay!) and we've already got him signed up for an indoor soccer program that will begin in January.

Moving In: Our number one priority when we moved into our new place was to get Halloween decorations up! Originally we didn't think we could move in before November 1st, but things ended up working out for us to move in on October 24th. The boys were down in Vegas with Grandparents for the weekend (huge help), so Jared and I went flat out that weekend and got everything unpacked before the boys came back. Even though we were crazy busy, we made sure to enjoy our time being childless and tried out a few local restaurants. When the boys came back the only thing left to do was for Gavin and Jared to put up the Halloween decorations together. Of course I still have pictures and shelves to hang on the walls, but one step at a time we're slowly getting there!

Life: No matter how crazy life gets it still keeps moving forward and never seems to slow down long enough for me to feel caught up! But I'm loving the ride and we are truly blessed. As Liam gets older it's fun to see his personality develop and learn what makes him, him. As a baby, Gavin craved attention from others (he still does)! He is our Mr. Social. Liam likes interacting with people, but he is more of an explorer, content to go off on his own and do his own thing. We all love the closeness of Jared's work. The hassle and headache of going through two moves has been well worth it for the extra time we get to spend together with Jared each day!
